Description

Blackwater Falls State Park's name comes from the falls of the Blackwater River whose waters plunge five stories before winding their way through an eight-mile long gorge. Tannic acid from fallen hemlock and red spruce needles causes the "black" water that make these falls one of the most photographed natural places in West Virginia. Sledding, hiking, cross country skiing, and great views form the viewing platforms will make this one of your favorite places. Visitors can enjoy spectacular views and beautiful waterfalls from the hiking trails or have a more luxurious visit with time at the Blackwater lodge, where cabins and a restaurant with good food are open year-round and offer wifi. The conference facilities house meetings and special occasions. The indoor pool, game room, and fitness center are also open year round.
